California June 2012 Propositions

Only two statewide propositions on this ballot. There will be lots more in November.

Election Day is Tuesday, June 5th. You can also vote before then at Early Voting locations. Check your sample ballot, or ask your county's Registrar of Voters to find out where. For instance, in Alameda County you can vote at the Registrar's office in downtown Oakland, among other places.

yes Prop. 28: Term Limits
This is a minor change to California's term limit rules. State legislators would be able to serve a total of 12 years total in either house, instead of the current separate limits of six years in the Assembly and eight years in the Senate. I say: sure, why not.

yes Prop. 29: Cigarette Tax
An additional $1 per pack tax on cigarettes. The opponents whine about how the revenue will be spent. I say: that doesn't matter. We could throw it away and the initiative would still accomplish its goal: discouraging smoking.
